Red, White and Printer

This is the Post Office for Printer KY, in Floyd County.  It was all decked out for Independence Day a year ago.

The first Post Office came here in 1909.  The unincorporated community was named for a local resident, John Printer.

Drift KY


The was, probably, the last post office in Drift.  A picture of the first one (in 1909) is here.  Drift is in Floyd County, a little north of Minnie.  1949 must have been a good year in this old coal town.  The building next to the post office was a theater (“Is the thea-tah really dead?”).  Movies probably saved a lot of sanity around miners and their wives.  Here’s the entrance:
