Chuckey TN Old Bank Building

bank

This 1920 building (36.212198, -82.687186)  was originally a bank.  It sits on Chuckey Pike where it crosses the railroad tracks.  The original train depot, now in Jonesborough, was located just across the tracks.  According to a local, the rumor was that the owners of the bank faked a robbery and absconded with the institution’s accumulated wealth.  Comments welcome on this (and any post).  It may have functioned as a post office, also.

safe

The original safe is still there, along with a bunch of stuff apparently left over from a rummage sale.

Also across the tracks from this building was once located a “birth to death” store…it had everything you’d need from birth to death (like the Big Store in Kingsport TN).  It’s totally gone now.

Unnamed #5

unnamed5

“Unnamed #5” was an access road to the original Galloway Mill in Sullivan County TN.  The mill is a goner, but the dam and part of the mill race are extant.  You can go to Google Earth and find it at 872 Old Beaver Creek Rd, 37618 Bluff City, United States.

The building on site now is, or was, Galloway Mills.  The business didn’t look like it was active, but all listings I found on the web seem to indicate it is.

This outfit flew down to the Caribbean from 1966 with DC-7s, then upgraded to these 720s around 1973. Later they became Independent Air.
