Places I've hung out in or just neat postcards

Brookside KY

This was the Post Office at Brookside KY.  According to Rennick’s “Kentucky Place Names”, the first Post Office in Brookside was established in 1930, with the earlier (1892) Ages Post Office just 1,200 feet away (the closest two Post Offices in the U.S.).  Brookside was a result of Eastover Mining Company’s operations in this area.    It’s all called Ages Brookside now, with Ages as the actual residential area.  Only the Manalapan Mining company, or the remnants thereof, remain in this area.

This was apparently the company headquarters.  The far end is the older of these two joined buildings, which may have been built by Eastover.  The company is bankrupt.  Up above this is a gated area where the actual mining operation was.
