A couple of churches

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve run across two really classy churches.
This one, Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Central Heights between Kingsport and Blountville, dates to 1903.  Can you imagine what this area looked like in 1903?  Amazing.

And this one, Cedar Creek Presbyterian Church, on Cedar Creek Road, just outside Greeneville.  It dates to 1921.

Mosheim Midway Post Office

This is the Mosheim Midway Post Office in Mosheim TN (named for the Lutheran Mosheim Institute that once was in this area)(you can look it up).  Unusually, it doesn’t state the zip code.  Fret not…it’s 37818.

Sunnydale School

This building housing a still-active general store on the Old Asheville Highway coming out of Greeneville TN (36.06565, -82.81470) began life as the Sunnydale School, a one-room educational facility from the early part of the 20th century up into the 1930s.  The current proprietor’s father bought the building in 1944 and began the general store.  She told me that her grandfather was associated with the school, perhaps as a teacher.  My stepdad ran several general stores…it’s a daily struggle.

Massey-Harris Tractor

This is a Canadian Massey-Harris tractor, a 44, probably from around 1951.  The company was in business from 1891 to 1953 or so.  This was sitting in the sunlight at the intersection of Cedar Creek Road and Allens Bridge Road in Greene County TN.  Here’s the serial number.  I think it’s 762485 M.
